Sworn translation is intended to validate documents written in foreign languages in Brazil or vice-versa. It also prevents any distortions or tampering in the content of foreign documents, as long as it mandatorily comes in a Public Translator’s stamped paper.

In order to ensure its authenticity, the translator’s signature in a sworn translation is certified by a Notary Public, and – depending on the document – it also needs to be registered at the Register of Deeds and Documents.

According to law, a sworn translation is required whenever a document written in a foreign language must be presented in court, or presented to federal, state, or municipal government agencies, besides entities maintained, guided or controlled by public authorities, pursuant to Article 18 of Decree no. 13609, as of October 21st, 1943.

This is a basic technique of interpretation. During a speech, the interpreter takes notes and, following a specific time interval, she/he performs the interpretation.

As a result, this translation modality takes approximately twice as long as a simultaneous translation to be performed, and doesn’t allow for natural fluency in a presentation. On the other hand, it’s more accurate than simultaneous translation, and doesn’t require any special equipment for the audience.

This is an interpretation modality where the translator speaks virtually at the same time as the speaker. The audience (who doesn’t speak the speech language) may choose to listen to the translation by the headsets. Generally, the translator stays in an acoustically isolated booth, his/her voice is conveyed to the audience by the headsets. Simultaneous interpretation (translation) is often used in meetings and conferences for a large audience, and enables the speaker to make a presentation without constant interruptions, as it would happen in a consecutive interpretation. It’s worth mentioning that this kind of interpretation poses a greater technical challenge for the translator. That’s why 1 more translator is usually hired for this job.
